Wheaton Police Issue Over 300 Tickets During Traffic Mobilization

Between June 23 and July 6, officers issued 263 tickets for not wearing a seat belt, 15 tickets for not securing a child in a safety seat and 41 tickets for talking on a cellular telephone while driving.

Submitted by the Wheaton Police Department

The Wheaton Police Department participated in a statewide “Click It or Ticket campaign by conducting 37 “Occupant Protection Enforcement Zones” from June 23 through July 6.

Officers issued 263 tickets for not wearing a seat belt, 15 tickets for not securing a child in a safety seat, and 41 tickets for talking on a cellular telephone while driving.
The City of Wheaton received an Illinois Department of Transportation grant to fund this holiday enforcement effort.

The goal is to boost the state’s safety belt use rate, and reduce fatalities and injuries. Safety belt use is important for all motor vehicle occupants. Motor vehicle crashes in the United States are the leading cause of death for ages 5 to 24.

The Wheaton Police Department wants all motorists and passengers know that they are more at risk of suffering a serious injury or death should they choose not to buckle up.
