Wheaton police and fire departments remember September 11 with ceremony, blood drive.

The Wheaton police and fire departments will host a ceremony and blood drive today, in remembrance of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The Wheaton Fire Department will host a in honor of September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. at the main department location, 1 Fapp Cir., Wheaton. The ceremony will be held outside at the flag pole in front of Fire Station #1 located at 1 Fapp Circle (behind the Target store).

Fire Department members will assemble at 8:45 a.m. and the ceremony will end around 9 a.m.

The Wheaton Police Department will team up with the fire department to host a in honor of September 11 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Operated by LifeSource Blood Services, the drive will take place at the , 900 W. Liberty Drive, Wheaton.

The Wheaton Police and Fire departments, in partnership with LifeSource Blood Services will be participating in the Everyday Heroes Police, Fire and EMS Giveback Program. Points will be earned for each participating donor, and upon fulfillment of required donations, a monetary donation will be made by LifeSource to the Hundred Club of DuPage County. The Hundred Club offers assistance to families of law enforcement and fire personnel who have been killed or injured.

One blood donation can help save three lives, according to a City of Wheaton announcement. LifeSource must register 1,500 donors every 24 hours to meet patients’ needs in the Chicago area. The goal for this blood drive is a minimum of 35 appointments.
