Vandals Shatter Car Windows on South Lorraine, South Prospect

Wheaton police were swamped Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 with reports of vehicle windows being shattered or broken, at least some apparently by someone with a BB gun, on Saturday night into the following morning. One home also had a window damaged.

The vandalism occurred primarily along the 1000 and 1100 blocks of South Lorraine Road, west of Village Green Park, although another incident occurred on the 1100 block of South Prospect Street, according to police reports.

Reports to police of damage to the vehicles began about 9:45 p.m. Saturday and continued through early Sunday afternoon, according to police records.

Wheaton police on patrol discovered two of the damaged vehicles about 12:41 a.m. Sunday, according to reports, which stated officers found a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser with its rear window shattered in a parking lot at 1001 S. Lorraine Road. Next to the Chrysler was a 1996 Ford Taurus with similar damage. Police said the damage and holes in the glass were consistent with damage from a BB gun.

The other incidents include:

• 1 a.m. Sunday, 1000 block of South Lorraine Road — Someone shattered the rear windshield of a parked 1999 Chevrolet Ventura between 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday.

• 1:12 p.m. Sunday, 1000 block of South Lorraine — Someone shot what appeared to have been a BB at the windshield of a parked 2007 Chevrolet Impala between 5 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
