A DuPage County judge ordered a $2.5 million bond for a 20-year-old Bellwood man accused of shooting and killing Husein Saghir outside the Sam’s Tobacco and Foodmart store in Bensenville, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney press release.

Kenneth Bardlett appeared for a bond hearing Wednesday morning where his bond was set $2.5 million with 10% to apply.  He is charged with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery.

Prosecutors said on Jan. 10, Bardlett and at least one accomplice encountered Saghir outside the Sam’s Tobacco and Foodmart store in Bensenville as Sanghir was preparing to leave for the evening.

Following a brief altercation, Saghir was shot and later died from his injuries, according to the news release. An investigation conducted by the Bensenville Police Department, the Major Crimes Task Force and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office led authorities to Bardlett.

The investigation into Saghir’s murder continues.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Husein Saghir as they attempt to come to terms with the senseless murder of Mr. Saghir,” Berlin said. “The Bensenville Police Department and the Major Crimes Task Force will continue to investigate this cold-blooded murder until all parties responsible have been held accountable."

Bardlett’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 10, 2014, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin for arraignment.
