UPDATED: Traffic Rerouted Near Geneva Road Accident Involving State Trooper Car

Crews are clearing the scene of an accident involving multiple cars at the intersection of Gary Avenue and Geneva Road.

Four people including an Illinois State Trooper have been transported to Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) with non-life-threatening injuries after a crash involving "several vehicles," including a female on-duty Illinois State Police Trooper, officials said. According to NBC Chicago, the accident involved five cars.

WBBM reported the accident started on Geneva Road in Glen Ellyn and ended in Wheaton. A fire department source told CBS Chicago it is believed the trooper had a medical emergency that caused the crashes.

Traffic was rerouted for nearly two hours Thursday morning near the intersection of Gary Avenue and Geneva Road after an accident involving multiple cars, including a state trooper vehicle. 

According to a dispatch report, responders extricated three people from vehicles around 8 a.m. and six ambulances were needed for the "multiple patient accident."

Officials said two people required extrication. Investigators are still working on the scene.

The cause of the crash has not been determined and the matter remains under investigation, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.
