Three Teens Killed in Semi-Truck Crash Near Oswego

Three teenagers - two from Plainfield, one from Naperville - were killed when their car collided with a semi truck on Monday afternoon, Illinois State Police have confirmed.

Three teenagers were killed when the car they were in collided with a semi truck on Route 126 near Oswego on Monday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.

The driver of the car, 19-year-old Brian Herrera of Plainfield, and a passenger, 19-year-old Tyler Montgomery of Plainfield, were pronounced dead on the scene, police said. A second passenger, 18-year-old Alexis Banuelos of Naperville, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center, where she was also pronounced dead, police said.

According to police, the black Ford coupe Herrera was driving pulled out in front of a semi truck heading east on Route 126 at Schlapp Road around 3:15 p.m. The truck hit the car, and flipped onto its side, pinning the car beneath it. Paramedics needed to use extrication to get the three teens out of the car, police said.

The driver of the semi truck, 45-year-old Scott Fernatt of Hodgkins, Illinois, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, police said. Fernatt was subjected to a blood test, and no sign of alcohol was found, police said.

A stretch of Route 126 between Schlapp Road to the west and Ridge Road to the east remained closed late Monday night.
