UPDATE: DuPage Man Charged in Murder-for-Hire Scheme

This 23-year-old wanted to get rid of his aunt, uncle and an elderly resident of the house, police said.

UPDATE: Matthew Olszewski's bail was set at $1 million Friday morning, the DuPage Sheriff's Office said.

A Glendale Heights man heads to bond court Friday morning after being accused of trying to get a hitman to murder some of his family members, police said.

Matthew Olszewski, 23, of the 1500 block of Glen Ellyn Road in Glendale Heights, was charged Thursday afternoon with three counts of solicitation of murder and three counts of solicitation of murder for hire, all class X felonies. Olszewski wanted to hire a hitman to take out his aunt, uncle and an elderly resident of the home, according to a press release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Officials received a tip that Olszewski was interested in obtaining a potential hitman to arrange a contract killing against his relatives, the press release said. Olszewski arranged a meeting with a hitman, actually an undercover officer, and instructed him on how to commit the killings and how to arrange for a form of payment from burglary proceeds, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Olszewski will be in bond court Friday morning at 8 a.m. He was already in custody for a theft charge and unlawful use of a weapon out of Glendale Heights, the release said.

If convicted of any Class X felony, Olszewski could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, according to sentencing guidelines in the current state statute.
