Police: Scooter Hidden in Fire Escape, Phone Hidden in Bushes Stolen, Car Break-Ins and More

Someone took a Wheaton resident’s scooter from a parking garage and put it in a fire escape at the Wheaton Center Apartments between 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 and 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Whoever took the scooter had knocked and scratched a 2011 Mercedes SmartCar, according to the police report. The windshield wipers, stem caps and antennae of the Mercedes were also taken off the car and the air had been removed from all four tires, police said.

A man hid his cell phone in the bushes outside the DuPage County Courthouse when security wouldn't let him take it inside to pay a ticket Monday, Feb. 6. He paid his ticket around 11 a.m. and when he returned to the bushes to retrieve the phone, it had been stolen.

Someone stole a GPS unit and $3 in coins from two unlocked nissans parked in the 1200 block of Evergreen Street between midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5.

Someone broke into three unlocked cars parked in the 1600 lock of Briarcliffe Boulevard between 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 and 6 a.m. Friday and stole a $5 bill.

Someone took the air out of two tires of a 2007 Toyota in the 400 block of County Farm Road between 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. The cost of the tires is about $350, police said.
