Police Blotter: Wheaton Man Charged in Retail Theft, Burglary and Property Damage

A Wheaton man is charged with retail theft, resident reports burglary on Woodcutter Lane, someone leaves the salon without paying and a man in scrubs dumps garbage on lawn.

Arrest

Phillip L. Berry, 67, of Wheaton was charged with retail theft after allegedly taking computer software valued at $69.99 and a portable hard drive valued at $109.99 from Fry’s Electronics, 3300 Butterfield Road, at 3 p.m. July 11. A loss prevention employee observed Berry allegedly take the items from shelves, open them and place them in a shoulder bag. Berry then left the store without paying for the items and was stopped by the employee outside the store.

A resident reported more than $500 in stolen electronics from their home in the 1300 block of Woodcutter Lane. The burglary occurred between 1 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7. Police said someone forced entry through the garage while the residents were out and stole a 32" flat screen TV and a Nintendo Wii.

Someone left a hair salon in Danada Square West without paying for their $20 shampoo and blow drying service around 5 p.m. Thursday, July 7.

Criminal Damage to Property

Someone uprooted a birdhouse, steel pole and two gallon hanging planter in the 1700 block of Casa Solana between 9:30 p.m. Jul. 7 and 6:45 a.m. July 8. 

A white man of medium build wearing blue medical scrubs dumped garbage on a property in the 300 block of West Street around 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 6.

Someone smashed the glass of the door to a business in the 200 block of Gables Road in Wheaton between 4:15 and 6:40 a.m. Saturday, July 2. Police said someone used a rock or brick to break the glass.
