Police Blotter: Water Balloon Problem, Kung Fu Class Theft and a Stolen Bike
The following items were taken from the Wheaton police blotter.
A water balloon dropped and nearly struck a Wheaton resident and her newborn daughters when they returned from a walk on Sunday, Apr. 10. The resident, who lives in the Wheaton Center Apartments, told police the water balloon missed the babies by just a few inches. When she took police to where the balloon hit the ground, other residents asked if police were there for “the water balloon problem,” according to a police report. Several residents said this is a recurring problem in which people are “constantly” struck by water balloons, but no one knows who throws them, police said.
A Wheaton resident of the 1100 block of Rhodes left her backpack on the bleachers while she attended kung fu class at the Wheaton community center at around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 9. After class, she noticed her wallet, containing $30 worth of cash and a GAP card, had been stolen. Someone returned the wallet, which was missing the card and money, police said.
A Wheaton resident in the 800 block of Illinois Street reported a stolen bike on Saturday, Apr. 9. According to the police report, the bike was taken between 3 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 7 and 8 a.m. Friday after it was left on the driveway. The bike is a yellow and silver Magna Exitor 21-speed boys bike, worth $120, police said.
