Police Blotter: Suspicious Phone Call, Warrant Arrest

A Wheaton woman receive a phone call from a man asking for $3,000 in bail money in Spain and a Wheaton man was arrested on a Lake Zurich police warrant.

Suspicious phone call

A Wheaton resident in the 2100 block of Glencoe Street reported a telephone call from a male who identified himself as her grandson at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7. The man said he was in jail in Spain after police caught him with a hitchhiker in possession of drugs. He was asking for $3,000 in bail money. She then hung up.

Lake Zurich police arrested Leonard A. Ladd, 49, of the 700 block of Liberty Street, Wheaton, at 6:40 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, on a valid arrest warrant pursuant to a traffic stop on Route 22 at Orchard Pond Drive, police reports said. The warrant was for operating an uninsured motor vehicle obtained by the Glendale Heights Police Department, according to police reports. Ladd was released after posting $150 and was issued a Friday, March 18, court date in Glendale Heights.
