Police Blotter: Port-a-Potty Fire and Thefts

Someone set fire to a port-a-potty and a 'no dog waste' sign in Kelly Park. Residents report a stolen iPad, GPS system and folding knife.

Police are investigating an arson case after someone set fire to a portable restroom and a sign prohibiting dog waste in Kelly Park, 1100 Main Street, Wheaton. Police arrived at the park around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 23, to find the port-a-potty engulfed in flames, police said. Fire officials determined the fire was the result of arson. The light post and wooden fence next to the port-a-potty were not damaged. The cost of damage is approximately $1,050, according to the police report.

Someone stole the iPad a man left on a ledge near the train platform at the Front Street Station in Wheaton Monday, May 2. According to the police report, the man reported the theft at around 6 p.m. Monday. The total loss is $640, police said.

A GPS unit was taken from a tan 1998 Jaguar parked in the 1300 block of Lorraine Road between 10:15 p.m. Thursday, May 5 and 12:15 p.m. Friday, May 6. According to the police report, the complainant thought he’d locked the car but police could not find any signs of forced entry.

Someone stole a folding knife from the glove box of an unlocked silver 2005 Chevy Classic parked in the 1200 block of Lorraine Road between 10 p.m. Thursday, May 5 and 8:15 a.m. Friday, May 6.
