Police Blotter: Car Damage, Break-Ins and Thefts

The following items were taken from the Wheaton police blotter.

Damage to property

A Wheaton resident in the 1900 block of Gladstone Drive reported a scratch on the tail gate of his black 2008 Chevy Silverado seeing up to ten kids standing in their driveway around 6 p.m. Friday, May 20. According to the police report, the resident and his wife saw the kids on their driveway and went outside to see what they were doing. The kids appeared to be “middle school aged” in dark shorts and dark t-shirts, police said. The resident did not see the kids near the car, nor did they see anything that may have caused the damage, police said. Total damage to the car was $500.

A resident in the 1400 block of Coloma Place reported a break-in to their blue 2006 Acura between midnight and 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 18. The resident’s roommate saw someone had opened the driver’s side door around 6:15 a.m. and smashed the window, but took nothing, police said.

A resident in the 1000 block of Gamon reported property damage after crashed into their Toyota Land Cruiser parked while parked outside around 3 a.m. Sunday, May 15. According to the police report, the resident heard a crashing sound from outside and found that their car’s rear hatch window had been shattered and fresh damage on the rear bumper. Police said that the damaged appeared “inconsistent” with a motor vehicle crash as the bumper had a sharp scratch and dent but no scuffs. Further, police found that nothing was thrown through the window, according to the report.

Break-in

A resident in the 1000 block of Heathrow Court reported a car break-in to their 1997 Chrysler Town & Country between 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 and 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 18. Someone rummaged through the interior but took nothing, police said.

Theft

A resident in the 2000 block of Cromwell reported that someone stole $150 from her 2002 Ford Focus when it was parked in the 2000 block of Roosevelt Road between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 18. When she returned to her car around 6 a.m., she saw that the rear driver’s side door had been unlocked and the key to the car was on the ground outside the car, police said.
