Police Arrest Wheaton Man for Two Residential Burglaries

Police arrested James Brooks, 57, of the 100 block of Blanchard Street in Wheaton for two residential burglaries in the 1600 block of Willow Avenue.

Wheaton Police officers arrested James Brooks of the 100 block of Blanchard Street in Wheaton for two recent residential burglaries Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Brooks, 57, is charged with two counts of residential burglary, according to a press release from the Wheaton Police Department. The charges allege that the suspect entered an occupied home in the 1600 block of Willow Avenue during the early evening hours of Monday, Nov. 8. The suspect entered the home through an unlocked door and removed a purse. In the second burglary, which occurred at the same home on Dec. 6, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the suspect forced entry by breaking doorway glass and reaching through to unlock the door, police said.

The suspect entered the occupied home and was confronted by the resident who was awakened by the noise. The resident ordered the suspect to leave the home several times. The suspect fled through the rear door of the home. No property was taken in the Dec. 6 burglary and the resident was not injured.

Wheaton Police Department patrol officers and detectives were assisted by officers from the Glen Ellyn Police Department in identifying arrestee Brooks. Brooks was arrested at his home on Dec. 7. Brooks remains in custody at the DuPage County Jail.

No additional details are available for release as prosecution is pending.

Note: The public is reminded that a complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant's guilt. Constitutionally, a defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government's burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
