No One Injured in Wheaton Fire

No one was injured in a fire in the 1400 block of Johnstown Street in Wheaton Sunday afternoon.

No one was injured Sunday in a fire to a condo building in the 1400 block of Johnstown Lane in Wheaton. The Wheaton Fire Department responded to a call at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Crews identified a fire in the attic of the multi-unit building, according to a press release from the fire department. 

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Several of the building units were occupied at the time of the fire, the fire department wrote.

All occupants safely escaped the building, and the incident did not result in any injuries. The second-floor units of the building sustained smoke damage and several of the first-floor units sustained minor water damage. The fire damage was contained to the attic area of the building. The occupants of the second-floor units were displaced due to the damage but were able to make alternative living arrangements.

According to the release, investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department were called to the scene to conduct the fire investigation, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time. The City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was turned back over to the condominium association after the fire.
