Mother's Attempt to Harm Son, Meth Lab and Sex Assault: Court Watch

Mother Accused of Attempting to Kill Son Pleads Guilty in Deal for Battery Charge

Elmhurst: Sentencing has been set for the Elmhurst mother who pleaded guilty to aggravated battery to a child in connection to a June 2011 incident involving her son. Cheryl Luchetta had been charged with attempted murder after her she awoke to find her son unresponsive inside their Elmhurst home last year. Police and prosecutors said Luchetta drugged the boy before cutting her own throat. Luchetta pleaded guilty in July to the aggravated battery charge in a deal with prosecutors. She faces between six and 30 years on the Class X felony at her sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 24, according to court documents.


Armed Robbery Dropped to Burglary Charge

Hinsdale: A Chicago man initially charged with attempted robbery at the Clock & Watch Shop recently pleaded guilty to a felony burglary count as part of a deal with prosecutors, court records show. David Quevedo was arrested in July after he went into the store, implied he had a weapon and demanded watches from the clerk. The 62-year-old woman working at the store began screaming and Quevedo fled without any merchandise, but was stopped by onlookers who heard the commotion. Quevedo was sentenced to 90 days in DuPage County Jail, with credit for half that amount as time served, put on 24 months of probation and ordered to stay away from the store. Prosecutors dropped two attempted robbery counts as part of the plea agreement, documents state.


Man Pleads Guilty Meth Lab Conspiracy

Woodridge: Michael Dehlinger of Woodridge pleaded guilty Aug. 28 for his part in a methamphetamine conspiracy, and agreed to testify against a co-defendant as part of the deal with prosecutors. Dehlinger was arrested in May after police discovered a small meth lab, drugs and drug paraphernalia inside his apartment while police served him an arrest warrant. He was initially charged with conspiracy to make meth and possession of meth-making materials, but pleaded guilty in the deal to possessing less than 30 grams of "methamphetamine precursor," court records show. He was sentenced to 180 days in DuPage County Jail, with credit for time already served, placed on two years of probation, ordered to pay $2,440 and to undergo regular drug testing. He also cannot have contact with, but must testify against, John Stark, who awaits trial on meth conspiracy and possession with intent to deliver charges. He returns to court Sept. 19, according to court papers.


Man Denies Sex Assault Charges

Batavia: A Batavia man accused of sexually assaulting a woman and then driving her to the hospital has denied the charges against him, court records show. Michael Jett was arrested in June on multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and battery in connection to incidents in late May and early June. He has been held in Kane County Jail on $3 million bail since police too him into custody after hospital workers called police when the woman was brought in for treatment. He was arraigned during a Sept. 5 hearing and is scheduled to return to court Oct. 10, records state.
