Services Set for This Week for Wheaton Native, Shooting Victim Megan Boken

Visitation for Megan Boken, a 23-year-old Wheaton native who died Saturday after a shooting in St. Louis, will be Wednesday at St. Francis High School. Her funeral is scheduled to follow on Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church.

As the community continues to mourn , plans are taking shape to pay tribute to her life at services later this week.

A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at , while funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at in Wheaton.

Boken, 23, of Wheaton died Saturday in St. Louis. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Boken was found about 2:20 p.m. Saturday with gunshot wounds to her neck and chest. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Witnesses told police they’d seen Boken arguing with a man who was either exiting her vehicle or had opened the door to it.

Boken was born June 15, 1989 in Santa Monica, CA. She attended St. Michael Catholic School and St. Francis High School in Wheaton, where she led the school's volleyball team to state titles in 2004 and 2006. She continued her volleyball career at St. Louis University.

According to the university’s website, Boken excelled on the court and off. A 2011 graduate of the university's John Cook School of Business, she also earned a nod for academic excellence and her involvement on the university’s student athlete advisory committee.

After graduation, Boken returned to the Chicago area, working as a financial advisor at Edward Jones in Wheaton from September 2011 until June, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was in St. Louis for an alumni game last weekend when the shooting occurred, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Boken's family remains in the Wheaton area. Her younger sister, high school sophomore Mary Boken, .
