West Chicago man faces criminal sexual assault charge after police allegedly caught him sexually assaulting a woman in his home.

A West Chicago man is charged with criminal sexual assault after police allegedly caught him sexually assaulting a woman in his home early Sunday morning, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin announced Monday.

Jose Ramirez-Alcantar, 61, of West Chicago has been charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class 1 Felony, and remains held at DuPage County Jail on $200,000 bail.

Officials said West Chicago police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a break-in at Ramirez-Alcantar's home around 2:18 a.m. Sunday. Officers allegedly found Ramirez-Alcantar in the act of sexually assaulting an adult female acquaintance. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody, according to a news release from the State's Attorney's office.

“My office stands ready to prosecute any sexual assault to the fullest extent of the law,” Berlin said in a statement. “No one should have to endure the physical and emotional pain of a sexual assault. I would like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Mandy Meindl for her work on this case as well as the West Chicago Police Department for their quick response and apprehension of Mr. Ramirez-Alcantar.”

Ramirez-Alcantar's next court appearance is scheduled for April 1, 2013, in front of Judge John Kinsella.
