Male Stranger Approaches Teen Girl Near Wheaton: Sheriff

A man similar to the one in this sketch tried to ask a girl for directions at night on a pedestrian bridge, police said. Instead of responding, she kept walking and he followed her.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office want the public's help to ID a man who approached a teen girl at night near Wheaton. 

The man went up to the girl at about 10:30 p.m. July 28 while she was walking on a pedestrian bridge in unincorporated Wheaton, according to a Sheriff's Office press release issued Monday. The bridge crosses the train tracks from the county fairgrounds into the Motorcycle Hill subdivision in unincorporated Wheaton.

"The man attempted to ask for directions, the teen kept walking, and the suspect continued to follow the victim and then re-approached the teen again," the release said.

The teen then ran away, called for help and the suspect left in unknown direction. A composite sketch of him is on this page and he is described as the following:

  • Hispanic male
  • About 30 years old
  • Spoke with medium accent
  • Wore black T-shirt

The incident occurred after the close of the 2013 DuPage County Fair, which ran from July 24-28. The Sheriff's Office told Wheaton Patch that deputies followed all active leads and are now asking for public assistance.
