Judge Delays Bromstead Trial

Domestic battery case now scheduled for September trial.

A judge on Tuesday bumped to September the scheduled domestic battery trial of Derek Bromstead.

Bromstead's case, stemming from a February incident involving a young relative at his Wheaton home, was the second oldest on Tuesday's trial docket, prompting Associate Judge Elizabeth Sexton to continue it to Sep. 26.

Bromstead's attorney briefly questioned the timing because the 13-year-old family member expected to testify at trial will be in school. Sexton said it was the earliest date available to expedite the case.

Bromstead, 43, is accused of using a belt to strike the relative during a Feb. 1 incident that occurred as the Wheaton businessman was running for a spot on the City Council.

Prior to the trial's postponement, attorneys in the case received a copy of an Illinois Department of Children and Family Services report on Bromstead which prosecutors had subpoenaed.
