Glen Ellyn-Area Scout Leader Charged with Sexually Assaulting Boy

A longtime Glen Ellyn-area Scout leader is accused of performing a sex act on a sleeping underage boy at a camp near Oxford, Wis.

A Boy Scout leader from unincorporated DuPage County near Glen Ellyn has been charged with sexually assaulting a boy under the age of 16 earlier in July at a Scout camp in Wisconsin, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the paper, Jeffrey L. Borneman, 54, of the 22-W-000 block of Stratford Court, a longtime Glen Ellyn-area Scout leader, is accused of performing a sex act on a sleeping boy on July 5 at Camp Freeland Leslie, 25 miles from Wisconsin Dells; investigators say his DNA was found on the youth, though he has denied the charges.

An executive with the St. Charles-based Three Fires Council told the paper that Borneman has been "immediately removed from Scouting... The abuse of anyone, especially a child, is intolerable and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who may be a victim of this type of reprehensible behavior."

Borneman was released on July 18 after posting $5,000 bail, the Suburban Life said; he is prohibited from contact with the alleged victim or with any minor under 16 while unsupervised.
