Glen Ellyn Man Gets Four Years for Child Porn

A Glen Ellyn man charged in March for possessing pornographic videos of pre-teen girls has been sentenced to four years in prison in a plea bargain, the Daily Herald reports.

Liviu Babei, 45, of the 800 block of West Driveway in Glen Ellyn, was admitted July 12 to the state's Northern Reception and Classification Center in Joliet, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Babei is in reception status, meaning he will stay at the Center until he is transferred to a permanent place in one of the state prisons. The average length of stay in reception is three weeks to two months, according to the Center's web page.

Police arrested Babei earlier this year as part of an investigation that turned up videos of young girls, some under the age of 13, engaged in various sex acts.

According to the paper, an investigating police officer downloaded the videos over the Internet from Babei’s computer using a peer-to-peer file-sharing network.

Babei, who had no previous DuPage criminal record, pled guilty to a charge of aggravated child pornography to avoid facing up to seven years in prison if convicted in a trial, the paper said. He will have to register as a sex offender for life.
