Fires at Wheaton North, Vacant House Unrelated: Fire Department

Officials say two fires within blocks of each other Thursday were not started intentionally, nor were they related.

Investigators do not believe anyone intentionally started the two fires within blocks of each other in Wheaton Thursday morning, or that the two fires were related, according to a news release from the Wheaton Fire Department.

A small fire broke out about 7 a.m. in a science storage room at Wheaton North High School just before students started first period. The school's sprinkler system activated and stopped the fire. Students were evacuated to the stadium and returned to classes later Thursday morning.

A fire started about 7:10 a.m. a few blocks away from the school at a vacant house at 25W330 Armbrust Ave.

According to the release, "While the exact causes of each fire remain undetermined, the fire investigators do not believe at this time that either fire was intentionally started nor do they believe at this time that the two fires were related to each other."

No injuries were reported in either fire.
