Elmhurst Family Finds Their Relative Dead, Covered in Snow

The 55-year-old Chicago man was found near his car in northwest Elmhurst.

Correction: The man's body was found at 265 West Ave., which is a parking lot. The relatives live across the street, according to police.

An Elmhurst family woke to a tragedy Sunday morning, when they found their relative deceased near their home on West Avenue.

William Colatos, 55, was visiting family on the 200 block of West Ave., just south of North Avenue, on Saturday, Jan. 4, police Chief Michael Ruth said. His family said he left to return to his Chicago home at around 7 that evening.

On Sunday morning, his relatives noticed that Colatos’s car was still in the parking lot across the street from their home. They went outside to see what had happened and discovered his body lying alongside the car, covered with snow.

Ruth said there were no visible signs of trauma. Colatos's body was taken by the DuPage County Coroner. Information on the cause of death was not immediately available.

This incident remains under investigation by the Elmhurst Police Department Detective Bureau, Ruth said.
