DuPage Retailers Pass Tobacco Compliance Checks

Retailers in unincorporated DuPage County have complied with tobacco laws, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.

DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba announced Thursday that 45 retailers in unincorporated areas have passed the last three rounds of tobacco compliance checks.

The checks have been part of the sheriff's efforts to reduce the access children have to tobacco products, according to a press release from the .

Funded by a grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, sheriff's deputies have conducted retail checks and educational programs for tobacco retailers.

“I am very pleased with the level of compliance achieved during this final round of checks” Zaruba said in a statement. “We need to protect our children by ensuring that tobacco retailers are doing their part to help reduce access to tobacco products.”

The Sheriff’s Office has participated in the “Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program, which distributes $1 million in grants to law enforcement agencies to educate retailers, for the past eleven years.
