DuPage DUI Arrests, Jan. 6

More than 34 DUI arrests were made in DuPage County over the holidays, according to police reports.

BURR RIDGE

Jan. 1: Travis Kirkley, 23, of the 3000 block of Columns Drive, Cumming, GA, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for disobeying a stop sign in the 0-100 block of Shore Drive at 2:12 a.m., and submitted to a pending blood test, police said. He was released to appear in court.

Dec. 31: Miroslaw Wytrwal, 47, of the 0-100 block of Horseshoe Lane, Lemont, was charged with aggravated DUI after the driver, whose license is suspended, appeared to be under the influence during a traffic stop for improper lane use near the intersection of Route 83 and Bluff Road at 2:21 a.m., police said. He submitted to a pending blood test.

Dec. 23: Alan Bartelney, 30, of the 100 block of Plainview Drive, Bolingbrook, was charged with DUI and improper lane use after appearing under the influence of alcohol and failing an ensuing breath test during a traffic stop near the intersection of I-55 and Route 83 at 12:44 a.m., police said. He was released to appear in court.

Dec. 22: Joan Workman, 52, of the 6500 block of Shabbona Road in Indian Head Park, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to give information, disregarding a traffic light, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give information after an accident and illegal transportation of alcohol, police said. The charges came after an accident near the intersection of Plainfield Road and Fieldstone Drive at 9:54 a.m. Police said she was released to appear in court.

DOWNERS GROVE

Dec. 30: Charles M. Wallin, 38, of the 700 block of Liberty in Wheaton, was arrested around 3:22 a.m. near Butterfield Road and Downers Drive, police said. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, and was issued citations for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license. He was issued a Jan. 30 court date in Wheaton.

Dec. 29:

  • Jack F. Kalita, 23, of the 8800 block of Oxford in Woodridge, was arrested around 9:25 p.m. near Maple Avenue and Rogers Street, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and was issued a citation for no headlights. He was issued a Jan. 30 court date in Wheaton.
  • Christina C. Moscatello, 24, of the 3500 block of Oleander Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 12:55 a.m. near Downers Drive and 40th Street, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and was issued a citation for speeding. She was issued a Jan. 30 court date in Wheaton.

Dec. 28:

  • Todd A. Domecq, of the 6400 block of Nokomis in Chicago, was arrested around 12:11 a.m. near Ogden Avenue and Washington Street, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and was issued citations for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was issued a Jan. 30 court date in Wheaton.
  • Scott A. Owen, of the 3600 block of West Benck Drive in Alsip, was arrested around 1:08 a.m. near Fairview Avenue and 63rd Street, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and was issued a citation for improper lane usage. He was issued a Jan. 30 court date in Wheaton.

Dec. 24: Amy Canty, 36, of the 5700 block of Fairmount Drive in Downers Grove, was arrested around 4:13 p.m. in the 5500 block of Fairmount, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and was issued a citation for resisting a peace officer. She was issued a Jan. 30 court date in Wheaton.

ELMHURST

Dec. 31:

  • Taushia Smith, 50, 4944 W. Huron, Chicago, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a controlled substance, among other things, after police pulled over her red Pontiac Grand Am for improper lane use, failure to signal and expired plates at Route 83 and Riverside Drive Dec. 31.

    When police pulled her over at 11:48 p.m., they also discovered that she was driving with a license that had been revoked for DUI. According to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, it was her third violation for aggravated DUI. Police said they also found heroin on her person and crack cocaine inside the vehicle. She was taken to DuPage County Jail, where she is being held on $10,000 bond. Her vehicle was towed for forfeiture.

    Two passengers in her car also are facing charges. Michael Chatman, 59, 1341 N. Central, Chicago, was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol. Latashe Walker, 36, 4669 Barnes, Jacksonville, Fla., was charged with possession of cannabis. They were released on bond.
  • Amilcar Funes, 36, 121 Bridget Court Apt. GB, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and illegal transportation of alcohol after police pulled over a red Ford Windstar for improper lane use at Lake Street and Route 83 at 1:12 a.m. He was released on bond.

Dec. 30:

  • Jimmy Ward, 27, 240 N. Walnut, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with DUI and transportation of open alcohol after police received a call for a driver sleeping behind the wheel of a silver Buick LeSabre at York and Interstate 290 at 6:40 a.m.
  • Zachary M. Champagne, 34, 118 W. Virginia St. Apt. 18, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his black Mazda Protege for improper lane use and improper turning at North and Myrtle at 2:45 a.m. He was released on bond.
  • William L. Gess, 28, 6469 Apache Drive, Indian Head Park, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his gray Volkswagen Jetta for improper lane use and failure to signal at York and Roosevelt at 2:10 a.m. He was released on bond.
  • Steven J. Rusinowski, 29, 4832 St. Paul Court, Hillside, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his black Mitsubishi Lancer for speeding at York and Wrightwood at 1:38 a.m. He was released on bond.

Dec. 29:

  • Marvin F. Vasquez, 37, 3335 W. Diversey Apt. 333, Chicago, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving without a license and illegal transportation of alcohol after police pulled over his green Toyota Corolla at North Avenue and Route 83 at 1:41 a.m. Police said he was pulled over for "drinking while driving." He was released on bond. Ruben Vera-Ortiz, 27, 6640 N. Clark, First Floor, Chicago, and Oscar Cornejo-Hernandez, 30, 3027 N. Davlin Apt. 2, Chicago, were cited for illegal transportation of alcohol and released at the scene.
  • Stacey R. Harms, 30, 308 S. Caroline Ave. SE, Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over her black Honda Pilot for speeding and improper lane use at York and Crescent at 1:06 a.m. She was released on bond.
  • Matthew M. Linden, 29, 156 S. Wisconsin Ave., Villa Park, was arrested and charged with DUI after police pulled over his gray Ford Explorer for speeding, failure to signal and improper lane use at Butterfield Road and Prospect at 1:04 a.m. He was released on bond.

Dec. 28: Francisco Barraza, 43, 1725 N. 20th Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal transportation of alcohol after his Ford Escort was involved in an accident at Butterfield and Mitchell at 2:02 p.m. He also was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond.

Dec. 27: Thomas R. Reich, 49, of Addison, was charged with driving under the influence, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, parking in traffic and no insurance after police received a report of an unconscious driver behind the wheel of an Oldsmobile around 8:15 p.m. in the 100 block of York Road. He was later released on bond.

GLEN ELLYN

Dec. 29: Anna L. Marrero, 37, of the 2000 block of Prentiss, Downers Grove, was arrested at 3:22 a.m. at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Exmoor Avenue, police said. She was charged with speeding and driving under the influence.

Dec. 25: Max Tejada, 31, of the first block of Briar Street, was arrested at 1:41 a.m. at Briar and Brighton streets, police said. He was charged with improper lane use, driving without a license and driving under the influence.

Dec. 23:

  • Jasmin Zukancic, 25, of the 1000 block of East Wilson Avenue, Wheaton, was arrested at 3:45 a.m. at I-355 and Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn Police said. He was charged with driving under the influence, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a traffic control signal.
  • Police said Shawana A. McLaurin, 30, of the 30 W 000 block of Dogwood Court, Warrenville, was arrested at 3:35 a.m. in the 500 block of Roosevelt Road. She was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, driving without a valid license and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

HINSDALE

Jan. 1: Vincente Vidana, 55, of the 600 block of 4th Street, Aurora, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a speeding stop near the intersection of Ogden and Woodstock avenues at 4:13 a.m., and failed an ensuing breath test, police said. He was released to appear in court.

Dec. 30: Brian C. Lee, 35, of the 1100 block of Plainfield Road, Countryside, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a stop for improper lane use near the intersection of 55th Street and County Line Road at 9:28 p.m., and failed an ensuing breath test, police said. He was released to appear in court.

Dec. 29: William T. Kopka, 29, of the 5800 block of South Garfield Avenue, Hinsdale, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a stop for improper lane use near the intersection of 57th and Madison streets at 1:34 a.m., and refused an ensuing breath test, police said.

In addition to DUI and improper lane use, police said, Kopka was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to yield. He was released to appear in court.

Dec. 28: Mark A. Teteak, 38, of the 200 block of Fuller Lane, Bolingbrook, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a stop for not wearing a seatbelt near the intersection of Western Avenue and 55th Street at 9:59 p.m., and failed an ensuing breath test, police said. He was released to appear in court.

Dec. 22: Alberto A. Sanchez, 32, of the 200 block of North Richmond Avenue, Clarendon Hills, was charged with DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for improper lane use in the 600 block of West 55th Street at 3:03 a.m., and refused to submit to breath test, police said. Sanchez was charged with driving without a valid license in addition to DUI and improper lane use, and was released to appear in court.

Dec. 21: Robert J. Drummond, 62, of the 300 block of West 59th Street, Hinsdale, was charged with aggravated DUI after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for improper lane use in the 300 block of West 59th Street at 1:05 a.m. and refused to submit to a breath test, police said.

Officers discovered Drummond’s license was suspended from a previous DUI, which led them to up the charge to aggravated DUI. Police said they obtained a warrant ordering a blood-alcohol test and took Drummond to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital to complete it. In addition to aggravated DUI, improper lane use and driving on a suspended license, he was charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle and transported to DuPage County Jail.

LISLE

Dec. 30: Philip J. Montes, 29, 4705 Old Oaks Drive, Lisle, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 11:23 p.m. at Fender and Ogden avenues, Lisle police said.

Dec. 29: Charles L. Schmidt, 38, 2346 Old George Way, Downers Grove, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 1:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Maple Avenue, Lisle police said.

WOODRIDGE

Ryan Kujawa, 18, of the 1200 block of Arnold Court in Downers Grove, was charged Dec. 27 with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to give information after striking an unattended vehicle, following traffic incidents that occurred in Woodridge the evening of Friday, Dec. 21.

According to Woodridge police, Kujawa was driving a 2008 Nissan on Friday, Dec. 21, when at approximately 11:10 p.m., he hit a parked car in the 6600 block of Oak Tree Trail in Woodridge, then hit the garage at the home.

Police reports indicate Kujawa continued eastbound on Oak Tree Trail, drove up over a curb on eastbound 75th Street, turned south on Westview Lane, then eastbound on Forest Glen Parkway. The Nissan then traveled northbound on Larchwood Lane, across the eastbound Lanes of 75th Street and up onto the grass, where Kujawa drove on the median, hitting a traffic sign, street sign and two trees. 

Kujawa’s vehicle ultimately overturned while entering the eastbound lanes of 75th Street at Janes Avenue at approximately 11:15 p.m., police said. The Lisle/Woodridge Fire Department transported Kujawa to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment.

Woodridge Police proceeded to obtain warrants and complaints, charging Kujawa Dec. 27 with DUI, five counts of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and four counts of failure to give information after striking an unattended vehicle and property. Kujawa surrendered himself to Woodridge Police on Dec. 27.
