City Issues Video on "Sending the Wrong Message," Cyberbullying

Police look at harmful messages leading to cyberbullying with video.

Students soon will be back in the classroom, interacting with hundreds of other students on a daily basis. This interaction also extends outside of the classroom through text messages, social networking websites, email and more. The Wheaton Police Department looks at how communicating can become harmful – and even criminal – in a new video called “Cyberbullying: Sending the Wrong Message.”

The Wheaton Police Department encourages parents, students and other members of the community to check out this video now to learn:

  • The meaning of the term “cyberbullying”
  • Where is the line drawn between freedom of speech and cyberbullying?
  • The harmful effects of cyberbullying on its victims
  • The consequences for students who participate in cyberbullying, including criminal charges
  • How the Wheaton Police Department is handling bullying inside and outside of schools.

This video also gives tips for parents regarding what they can do to help their children in these situations, and the Wheaton Police Department offers advice for students to think about before sending a text message, posting something online or sending an email.

This video is available for viewing now on the City’s website and is also being show on City of Wheaton Channel 10 (CWC10).
