Boy, 9, Reports Attempted Abduction in Winfield

A man approached a nine-year-old boy and asked him to get into his car around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, police said.

A nine-year-old boy reported a suspicious man and possible attempted abduction near the intersection of County Farm and Geneva roads around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, according to Winfield police.

Police said a white man in his 30s approached the boy and asked him to get into his car. When the kid refused, the man said he just wanted to give him some candy and talk. 

The car was described as an older, "boxy" black car with several dents, scratched tires and a broken rear passenger window with the hole the size of a baseball bat, police said.

The man was described as a white male in his 30s, wearing an orange hat. He also may have had a star-shaped tattoo, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Winfield Police Department at 630-933-7160.
