$500K in Drugs Found During Traffic Stop: Sheriff

A Calumet City man is held on $1 million bond after officials found $500,000 in cocaine during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

A Calumet City man is being held in DuPage County Jail on $1 million bond after officials found $500,000 in drugs in his car during a traffic stop in Bloomingdale Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's deputy stopped Jesus Gonzalez-Carrera, 25, about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Army Trail Road and Springfield Drive in Bloomingdale. Officials found four kilograms of cocaine and a half of a kilogram of methamphetamines after Gonzalez-Carrera couldn't produce a valid driver's license, officials said.

“Every day my agency aggressively fights to keep dangerous drugs out of the hands of our children and to make DuPage County a safe community,” DuPage County Sheriff Zaruba said in a statement.

Gonzalez-Carrera is currently in the DuPage County Jail on one count of Manufacture/Deliver of Controlled Substance 900 grams or more and one count of Possession/Deliver of Methamphetamines which are both Super Class X felonies. Carrera’s bond has been set at $1,000,000.00 dollars, according to the release.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement, “Because of their efforts, a routine traffic stop resulted in the confiscation of nearly half a million dollars worth of drugs bound for the streets. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Audrey Anderson for her continuing efforts prosecuting those who would peddle these dangerous drugs to our children.”
