Wilder than Dodge
Some people have said that Illinois's new concealed-carry law puts us back to the days of Dodge City in the wild West. That's a misunderstanding of the wild West. The Dodge City law was that as soon as a cowboy (or anyone else) entered a saloon, he had to hand his gun over to the bartender to hang behind the bar. The city fathers didn't want any armed men drinking in their town.
Illinois legislators don't see where that could be a problem.
