Senator Connelly reacts to Governor's 'State of the State' speech

State Sen. Michael Connelly issued a statement about Gov. Pat Quinn’s “State of the State” address, presented to a joint session of Illinois lawmakers Jan. 29 in the chambers of the House of Representatives.

“We are five years into Pat Quinn as Governor and the only pro-jobs initiative I heard today was that he, by Executive Order, appointed a small-business advocate. Governor, you are supposed to be the small-business advocate and the large-business advocate. You don’t need to appoint anybody,” Connelly said. “So if that’s the answer to being 50th in the country in jobs creation, I am very much disappointed.”

The 21st District Senator said he is willing to work with Gov. Quinn and his fellow lawmakers to right Illinois’ economic and budget wrongs, but a new approach is needed.

“Apparently the more government you grow, the better you feel about yourself when you’re the Quinn Administration. It would be great if one time we could sit down and say ‘Let’s take a look at these regulations that are stymieing job growth and making businesses like Office Max leave Naperville with its 2,000 jobs and go to Boca Raton, Florida. How is this happening? What do we need to do?’” Connelly added. “I have not heard that from the Governor. It would be nice.”
