Pets of the Week: Yorkies Ready for Hugs, Kitties Seeking Snuggles

Considering bringing a new pet into your home? Take a look at some of the adoptable pets waiting for homes at local rescues.

Every week we bring you pets looking for homes at area rescue groups. This week the pets are from Animal Rescue Foundation – IL (ARF) and the DuPage County Animal Care and Control. We welcome other animal shelters and rescue groups to contact us to participate in this weekly column. To participate, contact Glen Ellyn Local Editor Mary Ann Lopez.

DuPage County Animal Care and Control

Annie is a 7-year-old short hair who was surrendered to DCACC because her family could not keep her because their granddaughter is allergic. She is a very independent kitty who will fall in love with anyone who offers her food. Her previous owner said she was raised in a house with another cat and a dog and likes other animals. Annie is up to date with her vaccines, spayed, declawed, and microchipped. She is just looking for a that perfect home that will offer her some love and some kibble. Could that be you?

Lucky is a 7-to-8-year-old Chihuahua.  She was surrendered to the shelter because her owner was elderly and became sick. She is very sweet and likes the company of other dogs.  She is very used to being around people and loves to hang out with the office staff.  She is petite and will fit well into any home. Lucky is just hoping for her luck to change and she finds a forever home.

Adoption fees at DuPage County Animal Care and Control are $100 for dogs.  Cat adoption fees are $50. Currently, all cats and kittens are “Name Your Own Price.” Adoption fees include the fee for the pet, the shots, microchip and registration. Other animals are available at the shelter, including rabbits and guinea pigs.

The DuPage County Animal Care and Control is located at 120 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton. The hours of operation are Monday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Contact them by phone at 630-407-2800 or visit online

Ian and Liam

Ian and Liam are 3-year-old Yorkies that were pulled from a very bad situation, but now after some grooming and affection going both ways, they have settled in with their foster families very nicely. Now that these little ones are getting the love and attention they deserve, they are flourishing in loving home environments. Both of the pups get a little spooked if approach too quickly but love, love, love to be cuddled and loved on. The next step is finding the dogs their forever home, is it with you? Come visit Liam or Ian at one of our adoption events and you'll surely fall in love! They are being adopted out separately or as a pair.

Rosie is an all black cat that loves to snuggle on your lap and be petted. She gets along with other cats and with dogs, but would probably prefer to be an only cat, at most with just one other cat. She has been in an ARF foster home for too long for such a sweetheart, and would like to find her forever home! She is rather uncertain when she enters a new environment, but once she settles in she proves how loving she really is. Would you like to give this little furry girl the chance to win your heart?

Fees for adoption are: dogs: $200; puppies: $225; cats: $110; kittens: $125, front paw declawed adults cats $125 unless otherwise noted. Right now, older cats and moms are $75 and all black cats are only $25!

Contact the organization or inquire about a pet at 630-200-3828 or send them an e-mail at info@ARF-IL.org.
