Good Monday morning, Glen Ellyn! Today is an exciting day for me as I take over as the Local Editor of Glen Ellyn Patch. I replace Local Editor Samantha Liss, who left to pursue a new job opportunity in St. Louis.
While I may be new to , I am not new to journalism or to Patch. I have been working in journalism for more than 10 years. And, I’ve been working as a local editor at Naperville Patch for the last two years. Now, I am excited to be overseeing Glen Ellyn Patch.
I live in Naperville, but I am originally from Calumet City and I lived in Colorado for about eight years. I attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I earned my Master’s degree in print journalism. After my time at CU-Boulder, I went on to cover news in communities around Colorado, including working at the Durango Herald and at YourHub.com, an online news site.
In 2006, I moved back to Illinois. Prior to joining Patch as the Naperville local editor, I worked at the Sun-Times News Group in the new media department.
Over the course of my journalism career, I’ve written just about every kind of news story you can think of, including reporting on education, government, business, nonprofits, crime and lifestyles. I even covered a presidential campaign rally and have a White House press pass (tucked away in a photo album).
Now, I’m excited to be a part of the Glen Ellyn community, sharing local information and writing stories about what is happening around town. Along with covering local government, education and business, you can expect to see some new features and possibly some regular features repackaged.
New features to look for will include Wonderful Wednesday, a column spotlighting people in Glen Ellyn doing great things; Indies Only, a look at local independent businesses and Adopt Me!, a weekly column about local dogs and cats waiting to be adopted at area shelters.
You know Glen Ellyn best and I want to hear from you. Tell me what you like to read about and information you’d like to see on Glen Ellyn Patch. And, of course, please share any news tips you have. You can contact me at email@example.com or you may e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. I can also be reached at 630-433-0783.
Like you, I try to have some fun when I’m not working. I practice and teach yoga part-time, love music, skiing, spending time outdoors and have a very goofy cat, KiKi.
I look forward to getting to know Glen Ellyn, its residents and our loyal Glen Ellyn Patch readers. I hope you will help share the experience with me.
