Letter: Vote for Jeanne Ives

To submit a letter to the editor, email Charlotte@patch.com.

I have been volunteering on ' campaign for State Representative in District 42 in my free time.

I want to encourage you to vote for Jeanne because, in addition to her many qualifications (West Point graduate, military service, city councilwoman, precinct committeewoman, mother of five, economics background), I've had the opportunity to see the kind of person she really is. When Jeanne Ives talks about honor, it is not just empty words from another politician.

I have learned through the over the past few months how ugly the campaign process can be. However, time and again, I've seen Jeanne Ives choose to take the high road when her feet were held to the fire. We need people like Jeanne in office who can stick to their principles even when they are being attacked for them or when it would be easier to "go along to get along."

Without hesitation, I can say that Jeanne will be the kind of leader we need in Illinois State House of Representatives and will be a powerful advocate for the people of District 42.

I am proud to have worked on the Ives campaign.

Please remember to vote for Jeanne Ives this Tuesday, March 20 - and encourage your friends to do the same!

If you would like more information about Jeanne Ives or her campaign, visit www.ives42.com.

I stand by my opinion and my comments. The truth about the Hinkle and Milton Township and the rest of the garbage that gone on in this primary will come out. If you all have something good to say about another candidate, why don't write your own letters instead of dragging Ives through the mud?
Gregg Slapak March 19, 2012 at 06:03 PM
With all due respect, Ms. Fitzpatrick it appears Ms. Ives has little if any support by her current Wheaton City Council candidates and/or a number of former retired members of the council. They, too, must not think Ms. Ives is ready. http://www.votehage.com/endorsements.html

Greg, does Hage support marriage equality ?
Elsie Broadbent March 19, 2012 at 06:16 PM
Kathleen, The problem is that she claims everyone else is beholden to some special interest or party faction. She is in a sense calling everone else unfit for office. You yourself have referred to: "Jeanne Ives was jumping out of planes when her opponents were going to homecoming dances." What does that mean? Because she is older than the other candidates she is more qualified. The reason that Jeanne brings out these types of comments is that she creates this fake independant image of herself for the public, while attacking others as insiders. She is the ultimate insider that has benefited from the Milton Township machine that runs her political operations. She is right on most issues, but her behavior towards other does not lead to building any bridges that would make anyone beyond her circle to want and follow her. A true leader needs to be appealing to others to follow. She is no Margaret Thatcher, although she claims that she is.
John Mihas March 19, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Jim, please list all her accomplishments from city council.
Mark Kmiecik March 19, 2012 at 06:30 PM
Kathleen Fitzpatrick, fair enough. Chris Hage is best qualified for 42 district. The reason are many but I will stick with the most important. Successful prosecutor in the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. Chris left Joe Birkett’s office in 2008, in Birketts office, Chris had successfully prosecuted thousands of civil and criminal matters, including traffic, misdemeanor, and felony trials. Chri hage understands the law. Chris served as Legal Counsel to the Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee, worked on four statewide political campaigns, and is the Executive Director of the Federation of Illinois Young Republicans. Chris has testified before Senate and House Committees and has helped pass his own legislative initiatives, such as improving contempt powers used to enforce domestic relations orders. Endorsements: Including myself, the list of endorsements is long and distinguish - Joe Birkett, Randy Hultgren, Beverly Fawell, Evelyn Pacino Sanguinetti, The Chicago Tribune, You can see the complete list here http://www.votehage.com/endorsements.html for the rest of them. Chris is by far, the most qualified candidate for the job of our state rep, district 42. I have lived in Wheaton long time (27 years) and see Chris, not as a "FLASH IN THE PAN - 6 month wonder" but a solid, committed candidate to public service. I plan to Vote for Chri Hage, on this Tues March 20.

Ms. Fitzpatrick, with all due respect, to respecfully disagreem with another does not have to = dislike. I have personally chatted with Ms. Ives and she with me. We RESPECTFULY disagree and agree, bring on the election. Perhaps, overtime, and wigth involvement in future elections you will com to understand such. My crystal balls indicates that Ms. Ives will not be elected and primarliy due to her lack of experience. Should she win, she will receive my congratulations. Should she not win the primary election, I am quite sure she will not only congratulate, but support the party nominee. In the meantime,Ms. Fitzpatrick, I again repeat, (as a long time political activist) that "Ms Ives does not support equal rights for all. I do!"
Gregg Slapak March 19, 2012 at 07:48 PM
Jim: I never said that I supported Mr. Hage. I do see, however, that your past opponent and now member of the council does.
Gregg Slapak March 19, 2012 at 07:51 PM
Experience is a real plus. Simply put, Ms. Ives is not ready. Even, in my mind she was, I'd not be suppporting her. She only supports equal rights as far as her own personal and/or political agenda have been and/or are concerned.
Gregg Slapak March 19, 2012 at 07:52 PM
Ms. Fitzpatrick, you are taking this all way to personally.
Gregg Slapak March 19, 2012 at 07:59 PM
"Walk the talk", Ms. Fitpatrick. To insinuate that I was making "cheap shots" was not respectful. Nor, did it tell me that you really FULLY understand candidate Ives' positions. If you had, you would not have to ask me what I meant about Ms. Ives position on "equal rights for all". It's fully indicated in her literature. Again, and simply put, "Ms. Ives does not support equal rights for all. I.do!"
Gregg Slapak March 19, 2012 at 10:06 PM
It seems. clear, early-on tomorrow evening that the voters are telling her "thanks for your interest, but we think you are not yet ready."

Gregg, Ives does support birth equality (pro-life) is that important to you, or you are you a single issue voter. I think Greg you need to throw your hat in the ring and run for office. You cannot go through life a spectator for ever. If you care about issues close to you then you should take action and put your neck out. BTW: Did you ever resolve the flag issue you emailed me about?

Jim Mc:Thanks, Jim. I have an adult life-long commitment to equal rights for all, No exceptions! NONE, including the right for women to attend our military institutions of higher learning and to fight for our nation on the "front lines". Ms. Ives does not fullfill that agenda, nor does she have the governmental experience as compared to others in the 42d race.. Jim, I have have never had the ambition to run for office. I do, however, enjoy working for a candidate that I might feel best fits my own beliefs. As Ms. Ives knows through our personal conversations, I have supported candidates within both parties, including former Congressman Steve Gunderson (R-WI), (having been on his DC staff) and yes, Nancy Pelosi in first run for Congress in 1986 as the candidate I thought would best represent the City by The Bay. And... the list goes on. Hey, man, I'm old! Steve, Nancy and her husband, Paul and I are all very close to this day. So, to answer your question, I am far from singular in issue. In this particular race Ms. Ives does not support equal rights across the board, she lacks experience.
Gregg Slapak March 20, 2012 at 01:22 AM
Further to Jim Mc:Regarding the flag. Do you see a flag atop the Old Court House? No! Evidently, the old pole will not sustain a flag, or so I was told by the private developers and, now, Association Mgt Partners who manages the , yet to be completed "Courthouse Square. Now... do you see the clock tower lit on all four sides. Yes! And... Jim,do see a grocery store coming to downtown Wheaten. Yep! Finally, I prefer to be a community activist as opposed to an elected politician, but thanks again for your thoughts. Here's a blast from the past. I once served as campaign manager in the early '80's for a woman who was first ran for county sheriff in a four-way GOP primary race. We won the primary. She went on to defeat the incumbent Under Sheriff by 1.0% of the vote. His campaign slogan was that of his to-be retired sheriff. "Vote the Man". That, itself, propelled me to take on the challenge. My candidate became the first woman ever elected county sheriff in the State of Wisconsin without her husband first serving as sheriff. Good nite, Jim. and just let me give a little advice as it pertains to your local/vocal comments in support of candidates/issues of your choosing. And, hey man, being an independent supporter does often add to ones credibility. Just sayin, m friend. Just sayin!
Cath Anders March 20, 2012 at 03:53 AM
Well, let's see... if she's out tomorrow, she's out!!!
Cath Anders March 20, 2012 at 03:57 AM
Thank you Mark. My vote goes to Hage.
Cath Anders March 20, 2012 at 04:24 AM
That's a scary thought..
Jim McMahon March 20, 2012 at 04:31 AM
You seem to only hold Ives to this standard of marriage equality but not Hage or anyone else for that matter...what gives? If you feel Ives is not qualified the job that's fine but your post have been only about one issue.
Jim McMahon March 20, 2012 at 04:32 AM
If you want to hear my thoughts on other issues I'll meet you for coffee.
Jim McMahon March 20, 2012 at 04:43 AM
What do people feel that prosecuting gang bangers make you "QUALIFIED" to address the state financial issues. We need more accounts and cpa's not more lawyers in Springfield. Vote Jeanne Ives!
Gregg Slapak March 20, 2012 at 11:26 AM
I have two issues regarding Ms. Ives. 1.) She does not believe in equal rights for all and 2). Ms Imes is highly inexperienced. Those two important matter in mind, I must decide who I believe is the best to debate with the Democratic candidate going forth to the general elections. Simply put, Jim, in my opinion, and that of most if not all her fellow city council members, Ms. Imes is not the best candidate to represent us in Springfiield. I believe the voters will bear that out today.
Gregg Slapak March 20, 2012 at 11:37 AM
BTW, Jim, I see that your former opponent in your bid to serve on the city council and ( and now, who according to many I have chatted with, is well respected by his fellow members and Mayor Gresk) Todd Scalzo is not supporting Ms. Ives.
Gregg Slapak March 20, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Thanks, Jim. Are you running for office anytime soon? Let's hold off till then, ok? Now back to real estate sales. Spring has sprung!
Cath Anders March 20, 2012 at 11:57 PM
That is what I am praying for. This state is in enough trouble, we do not need more...
Sean Johnders October 20, 2012 at 08:44 PM
So, Jeanne Ives won and is getting ready to win in November. If elected, I hope she forces the posters here to learn how to spell, it makes for easier reading.
