Obituary courtesy of Williams-Kampp Funeral Home:
Ronald R. Kolb, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Wheaton, with his family present on January 31, 2013 at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (nee Bruha) Kolb, his sons Ronald Jr., Phillip (Britt), daughters, Karen (Jerald) Ewert, Kathleen (Junior) Jacintho and grandfather and fishing buddy to 7 grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents William and Anna (Elliott) Kolb and older brother William, and survived by brothers James (Geri), Daniel (Eileen) and sisters Marie (William Braun), Carol (Robert Tokarsky) and Debbie (Barry Slingerland) and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Ronald grew up on west side of Chicago, attending parochial schools there. At that time in Chicago the local parish was a large focus of everyday life. He could remember his grandfather still had wooden sidewalks in front of his home on the 1300 block of South Heath Ave. After graduating from the Chicago parochial schools, it wasn't long before he enlisted in the Navy, serving on Destroyer Escorts in the Pacific and working as a radioman. He received an honorable discharge after serving his country proudly. He started his own concrete construction business where he became known as one of the best concrete men in the Chicago area which was fueled by German work ethic and stoicism enabling him to persevere many years of hard work and long hours.
He was an avid fisherman of the freshwater lakes of the North Woods and Gulf shores of Florida – always chasing that elusive 'big one'. Ron was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and especially followed his 'Fighting Irish' of Notre Dame. He enjoyed time with his Newfoundland dogs. He became interested in his family heritage and tracing his German / Scot-Irish ancestry. His generosity of donating his work to the Serenity House and receiving the Man of The Year Award were very proud moments for him. While his interests were wide and varied but he always embraced his family and church the closest.
