Ralph Lambe, 96, July 2, 1916-Nov. 20, 2012

Former Assistant Fire Chief in Wheaton died Tuesday, Nov. 20. He was 96.

Ralph W. Lambe, 96, went peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, November 20th, 2012. He was born July 2nd, 1916 where he lived all his life in Wheaton. He grew up at 211 W. Indiana St. He was the son of Mary Craigmile and William Lambe. In 1939 he married Dolores, and together they raised six children, Donald (Susan), Sandra Poeschl, Ronald (Carol), Sharyn (Kenneth) Wojciechowski, Stephen (Linda), and Janice (Joseph) Dimas.

Grandpa enlisted into the Navy during WWII to be trained as an electricians mate. He served on the U.S.S Kline until his discharge on November 1st , 1945. Upon returning he became an assistant fire chief in Wheaton for 22 years until he retired in 1972. He continued working for IBEW Local 701 until his retirement. He spent the rest of his days living in the home that he built, just a few blocks from the home he grew up in, where he watched old war and western movies until his last day.

He is survived by 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death his wife, Dolores, his two brothers, Lawrence and Francis(Spud), and three sisters, Eunice, Margaret, and Alice.

Visitation was Friday at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home 430 E. Roosevelt Rd.(One Blk. E. of Naperville Rd.) Wheaton. Funeral Service Saturday 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment St. Michael Cemetery Wheaton. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. 119 N. West St. Wheaton, IL 60187.
