Joyce Spicer, age 75, a lifelong resident of Wheaton, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 25, 2013. She was born January 14, 1938 in Chicago to Irene and Edward Spicer. Joyce attended Wheaton Public Schools and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1956. She graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL in 1960. She taught in Lutheran schools for 19 years; the first 9 years in Alexandria, Virginia, and then at St. John Lutheran School in Wheaton. She later obtained a paralegal certification and began working at a law firm in Wheaton and eventually retired from Harris Bank in Chicago.

Joyce was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for most of her life. Recently she has been active in many ways including the garden club, the quilters group and the JOY group. She was an active neighbor and served on the Briarcliffe Homeowners board.

She had many interests including reading, travel, music, sewing, quilting and knitting.

For many years she cared for her mother, taking her into her home and later continuing her mother’s care at Brighton Gardens.

She is survived by her mother, Irene Spicer; three siblings, Bonnie (John) Priebe of Maryland, Tadd (Carol) Spicer of Arizona, and Diane (John) Hodson of Belvidere, IL.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. On Wednesday, January 30, there will be visitation at St. John Lutheran Church, 410 N. Cross St., Wheaton from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
