Arthur Scott Grove, 90, Aug. 27, 1920 - May 27, 2011

Visitation for Arthur Scott Grove will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jun. 3 at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton and again at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jun. 4 at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd.

Arthur Scott Grove of Wheaton died Friday, May 27 at Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream. He was 90.

He was born on August 27, 1920 to Arthur and Bessie Grove in Wenatchee, WA. He was raised in Wheaton and graduated from Wheaton High School.

He served in the military for 37 years and was a veteran of World War Two, serving 15 months in the Pacific Theatre. Following his World War Two service, he was honorably discharged to reserve status January 29, 1946. He returned to active duty March 10, 1951 to July 12, 1952 during the Korean War and again October 28, 1962 to November 27, 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis. He had continuous active and reserve duty service from his enlistment on November 3, 1942 until his mandatory retirement on August 27, 1980 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

He was born into a U.S. Postal Service family so he began work at the Wheaton Post Office soon after high school. It was on one of his mail routes that he met his future wife, Helen. He rejoined the Wheaton Post Office after the end of the war and remained until retiring as Assistant Postmaster in 1976.

He attended the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church where he served as a greeter until his 90th birthday. He and his wife were charter members of the church’s adult bible class, Kupples Klass.

After retiring, Grove became an avid bicyclist. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry and Ronald; two daughters, Vickie and Nancy; four grandchildren, Callyson, Breanna, Andrew and Jolene; three sisters, Phyllis, Barbara and Nancy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Helen; and a son, Jimmy.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jun. 3 at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton and again at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jun. 4 at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church.

Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
