Hockey and Nutrition go hand-in-hand

Good nutrition can help you stay healthy while playing hockey and other sports

For the past 7 years we have had one or more boys playing hockey. It took me a while to learn the sport and the rules of the game. I remember distinctly when I figured out the   off sides call. Over time I have learned to love the game. Just as much as that I have come to appreciate the fitness level that is required to maintain stamina through out the game.

It used to be that I thought water was enough for practices and games. I saw all these kids just drinking pop, Red Bull, eating doritos  and donuts. I didn't think that was the answer to good hockey nutrition but really didn't pay attention until my boys complained about how tired and hungry they were after their games.

Physique has been a life saver for me during marathon training so I decided to give it to my boys . When they got home from a game at night, we blended up a couple scoops of Physique protein powder, milk and a banana. Yum....They loved it. The next morning was the true test. Sometimes the boys would wake up with a headache after a workout or a tough game. The headaches were gone and their muscles felt great, no soreness.

That is what Physique is designed for, to help repair your muscles you have just worked out, prevent soreness and get you ready to workout the next day.

Each practice and game the boys take a water bottle filled with Performance, Shaklee's hydration drink. It's a powdered product that you mix with water and it basically tastes like a healthy lemonade.  What I love about that product , besides it containing NOTHING artificial and has less sugar than other drinks , is that Performance absorbs so quickly into your system. Ever drank a sports drink during a workout or run and felt bloated and nauseous? Doesn't happen with Performance. Soaks right in and hydrates better than other leading sports drinks.Other sports drinks contain some ingredients I don't want my kids to have in their bodies. To name a couple:

Yellow dye#6 made from coal tar or petroleum.

Modified Food Starch - It is a derivative of corn, wheat, potato, rice, or tapioca, chemically altered to dissolve quickly and serve as a thickener. People who have wheat and gluten allergies should avoid products with this ingredient because it may contain gluten

Calcium silicate – anti-caking agent

Supplementing with great hockey nutrition products can take your game to another level. My boys take a Vitalizer strip of vitamins each morning to keep their immune systems strong, energy level up and cover the bases when their diets fall short.

As you push harder and farther during a practice and game, give your body and muscles what it needs before, during and after your workouts. You will notice the difference and be glad you did.
