Divine Comeuppance for Tigers?
Maybe Wheaton-Warrenville South will rethink future Sunday morning games.
I’m as much of a football fan as the next person. However, we need to keep our priorities straight.
Was it really necessary for Wheaton-Warrenville South to schedule a home football game for 11 a.m. on a Sunday? With gates opening at 9:30 a.m., the school chose to set up a direct conflict with Sunday services at most of our houses of worship. We know the answer: the lure of “national TV exposure” won out in Wheaton.
I graduated from a public high school with a large Jewish population, and school was not held on the Jewish high holidays. This was not a matter of “establishment of religion” – simply common courtesy and common sense. Even the NFL, which chases money at every opportunity, doesn’t start its games until after noon local time on Sundays.

What did Wheaton-Warrenville South get for its national TV exposure? The end of its 26-game winning streak, with a loss to Glenbard. Perhaps God is not mocked, after all.
