Wheaton College's Hastert Center Hosts Free Vocational Vision Conference for Pastors and Lay Leaders

The J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government, and Public Policy at Wheaton College invites pastors and lay leaders to attend a free conference, "Economic Wisdom for the Church: Casting a Vision for Vocation," June 16-19, 2014. The conference will help pastors understand and communicate to lay people the economic and biblical principles for why everyday work matters.

Sessions explore the values for navigating life in the marketplace, the virtues of work and ethics in economics, the business ethic of creating value in community, the gospel and the mystery of democratic capitalism, the economics of natural disasters, and more.

Keynote speaker Tom Nelson is senior pastor at Christ Community Church in Leawood, Kansas, and author of Work Matters: Connecting Sunday Worship to Monday Work (view an interview with Nelson about the book here). Additional speakers include economic scholars, pastors, and Christian business practitioners such as Shundrawn Thomas, executive vice president and global head of Northern Trust’s Exchange Traded Funds Group, and Wheaton College Assistant Professor of Economics Dr. Winnie Fung. The conference includes a visit to Chicago’s Lawndale Neighborhood Entrepreneurial Enterprise Projects with Rev. Wayne L. Gordon.
