Living Out Loud Students Donate $200 to HSP

Last week, middle youth at three area churches; St. Petronille Parish of Glen Ellyn, Visitation Parish of Elmhurst, and Resurrection Parish of Wayne, made a generous donation of $200 to feed needy families in DuPage, served by the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP.). The donation will support HSP’s Feed the Kids project which provides impoverished children, and their families, with healthy groceries while they are out of school for the summer. This donation was in addition to a volunteering event, in which the youth spent two days volunteering to support the program.

Living Out Loud is an annual service event for the youth of St. Petronille, Visitation, and Resurrection parishes, in which they volunteer in order to serve those in need, in their communities. The youth participants of Living Out Loud volunteered with HSP in late June by packaging 100, 25 lb. boxes of non-perishables for the families enrolled in the Feed the Kids program. They also sorted through and organized 70 cases of meat.

The generous donation from the youth of the three churches will support HSP’s Feed the Kids Program. Throughout the summer, FTK distributes a monthly food package to 100 impoverished families, with over 375 children, living in the DuPage and Kane County area. The 150-175 food package includes 3-25 lb. boxes of non-perishables, 15 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables, 7 kinds of frozen meats, and 3 loaves of Pepperidge farm bread.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides monthly food deliveries of 90 pounds including fresh produce, frozen meats, non-perishables, paper products and secret pal gifts to 122 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 875 children. Feed the Kids program provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce worth $1,500 retail in total for the summer. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
