Wheaton Warrenville South Athletes Provide Paper to Needy Seniors

The Athletics Leadership Council of Wheaton Warrenville South High School, recently ran a paper products drive to benefit needy senior citizens.

The Athletics Leadership Council of Wheaton Warrenville South High School recently held a “paper drive” to collect paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, and Kleenex,) for the sake of needy senior citizens. The collected items, which ended up filling five large garbage bags, were delivered earlier this week, by the school’s Athletics Director, Mike Healy, to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP,) of DuPage County. HSP will distribute the paper products to the needy senior citizens in their Senior Citizen Project, which provides for the basic and nutritional needs of 121 local seniors.

The Athletic Leadership Council of Wheaton Warrenville South ran the drive, to ensure that these needy seniors would receive the paper products they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Mike Healy received an urgent appeal from HSP, explaining that the needs of the seniors far outweighed the amount of paper products HSP currently had access to. Healy brought the appeal to the council, which inspired the students to run the drive.

The donated toilet paper will go to impoverished, local senior citizens served by HSP’s Senior Citizen Project. The purpose of this program is to provide for the basic and nutritional needs of 121 needy, local seniors. HSP does so by providing monthly deliveries of 100 lbs of groceries to each of the 121 seniors in the program which include: selections of 7 fresh fruits and 8 vegetables, 7 frozen meats, 6 bags of non-perishable foods, 2 bags of paper products and personal care items.
