Andi Stelzner Fund donates $2500 to HSP

Last week, the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) received a generous donation from the Andi Stelzner Fund of The DuPage Community Foundation of $2500. The money was specifically donated to provide nutritious groceries to individuals that are enrolled in the Senior Citizen Project. The project provides 121 impoverished seniors throughout DuPage and parts of Kane County with groceries, household items, and other necessities that they need in order to maintain a healthy and comfortable lifestyle.

The Andi Stelzner Fund was created to provide support and opportunities for physically and neurologically challenged individuals. The Fund was named in honor of Andi Stelzner, a young woman who suffered from Rett Syndrome, which is a neurodevelopment disorder. The mission of the fund is to provide social and participative opportunities and support for those members of the community who suffer physical or neurological disabilities.

The purpose of the Senior Citizen Project is to provide 121 needy, local seniors with healthy and nutritious groceries. Each senior receives a monthly delivery of 100 lbs of groceries. The package includes 7 selections of fresh fruits, 8 vegetables, 7 frozen meats, 6 bags of non-perishable foods, 2 bags of paper products. In addition to their monthly grocery delivery, they receive a package of personal care items that includes shampoo, conditioner, a toothbrush, dental floss, lotion, soap and hand sanitizer every three months.
