WWSHS Tiger Marching Band Places 1st in Class A at Chicagoland Marching Band Festival

The Wheaton Warrenville South High School Tiger Marching Band placed 1st out of five bands in Class A division at the 46th Annual Chicagoland Marching Band Festival at Wheeling High School on Saturday, September 21. Also in its class, WWSHS won awards for Outstanding Music, Outstanding General Effect, Outstanding Percussion, and Outstanding Auxiliary.

WWSHS was one of 22 bands competing at the Chicagoland Marching Band Festival. Each band competed in one of three classes, with class size being determined by the number of musicians in the band. All bands were judged on music performance, visual performance, general effect, percussion, and color guard.

For its 2013 competitive season, the Tiger Marching Band is presenting a 7.5-minute show titled “Inner Conflict,” which features three distinct movements: Hope, Darkness, and Unity. The music was composed by Jordan Yi, director of bands at Jefferson High School in Rockford, Illinois. Yi is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and a former member of the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps. Along with writing the music for this year’s WWSHS competitive program, Yi designed the show’s drill, a set of diagrams illustrating the complex formations band members create on the field during a show.
