Wheaton Graduate Joins First Presbyterian Staff

, 715 N. Carlton, Wheaton announces the appointment of Marketo Christine Griffin as the new Coordinator of Contemporary Worship, who was selected after an extensive search of available candidates.  Marketo’s eclectic background includes a music degree from Wheaton College and service in the US Air force (Operation Iraqi Freedom). Her music credentials include directing choirs in the military, the DuPage AME Church, and at Wheaton College.

Members of the candidate search committee offered these observations:

Our mission was to find a candidate that fit our congregation and could lead us into the future.  From the first time we talked to Marketo, the committee knew that she was special.  Our excitement grew when she participated in a live “mock” service directing all the participants.  One member of the committee commented that she got “goose bumps” when Marketo sang her solo.

Marketo remarked I am thrilled, humbled, and so grateful that God has led me to First Presbyterian of Wheaton.  During my preparation I felt God ministering to me through the music, lyrics, prayers, and scriptures.  The joy that I felt during that time confirmed to me that First Presbyterian would be a wonderful place to grow and lead as we explore worshipping our Savior in less traditional ways. Beginning Sunday, September 25th, the worship format of the 10:45 service will move to a contemporary style, under Marketo’s direction. Members of the community are invited to participate.

Sunday worship services begin at 8:30 and 10:45. Note New Times Classes are offered for both children and adults during the Education Hour from 9:45-10:30.  Child care is provided for children four years old and younger during both services.  First Presbyterian also offers an informal 5 pm worship service Saturday afternoons.
