City Council Candidate: John Prendiville

John Prendiville is running unopposed for the At-Large City Council seat that became vacant when Jeanne Ives resigned to take office as State Representative in the 42nd District. Prendiville, 50, was an At-Large Councilman from 2007 to 2011, when he ran for Mayor against Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk. He was active in committees on the old Hubble school property and the Wheaton Grand Theater, and served on the board of the Downtown Wheaton Association. He lives in Wheaton with his wife, Georgia and four children.

What is the primary reason you are running for this office?

I am running for election to the City Council because  I believe that I have the ability,  desire and dedication to represent the residents of Wheaton effectively,  and would like to have the opportunity to positively impact  the City’s decision-making process.

What will be your single most important priority in your term on City Council?

Maintaining the City’s excellent financial position, which in turn permits the City to provide the high level of services it currently provides while maintaining and improving our infrastructure. 

How long have you lived in Wheaton? If applicable, how long have you been involved with Wheaton?

I have lived in Wheaton for 23 years, and have been actively involved with the City and the Park District.

What's your favorite thing about Wheaton?

The community spirit of our residents. 

What is the biggest problem in Wheaton?

The biggest problem facing Wheaton is the poor financial condition of the State of Illinois.  This impacts the City in many ways, but most directly in that it increases the possibility that the State will seek to plug its financial gaps by reducing revenue sharing with local government.
