Wheaton Municipal Band to play an "American Salute" to Morton Gould on July 27

As the 2013 summer season of the Wheaton Municipal Band wraps up, the renowned band goes to Edman Chapel at Wheaton College for its annual indoor concert on Saturday, July 27 at 8:00 p.m.  The free concert celebrates the centennial of the birth of legendary American composer and conductor Morton Gould with many of his favorite audience pleasers in “An American Salute.”

Abby G. Burton, Gould’s daughter, will be on hand to share stories of her father’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, his induction as one of the Kennedy Center Honorees, and his friendship with Benny Goodman and other musical celebrities. The band will showcase the distinctive heroic quality and brilliant scoring of Gould’s works, playing compositions such as “Jericho Rhapsody” for Band, “Dixie” and “American Salute” (variations on When Johnny Comes Marching Home).
