Wheaton Municipal Band to perform Patriotic Concert on Tuesday, July 2

Traditionally the most popular concert of the summer season, the Wheaton Municipal Band presents a “Red, White and Blue Through and Through” Patriotic Concert on Tuesday, July 2 at 8:00 p.m. in Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave., Wheaton. IL.

Guest conductor Lieutenant Commander Lorelei Conrad, retired director of the US Navy Band, selected a fine program for the evening, including:  “Resplendent Glory” by Galante, “Seventy Six Trombones”  by Wilson,  “Star Spangled Spectacular” by Cohan, Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” and “Strike up the Band”, Morton Gould’s “American Salute” and patriotic favorites  “Armed Forces Salute”, “Stars and Stripes Forever”, and  “America the Beautiful”.

Originally a trumpeter from Elburn, IL, Conrad was the first woman in U.S. Naval history to receive a commission as a Navy Bandmaster. Lieutenant Commander Conrad’s assignments as a Bandmaster include serving as Director of the Navy Band in San Francisco, Associate Conductor of the United States Navy Band in Washington DC, interim Music Program Liaison Officer for Chief of Information at the Pentagon, Fleet Bandmaster of the US Seventh Fleet located in Yokosuka, Japan, Director of Training and conducting instructor at the Armed Forces School of Music, and Fleet Bandmaster of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.  While in Japan, Conrad conducted three performances with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.  Her final assignment with the U.S. Navy was as Director of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet Band, the Navy's largest Fleet Band.

Start your Independence Day celebration early with the Wheaton Municipal Band on Tuesday, July 2 in Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave ., Wheaton. IL. Pre-concert picnic entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Dixie Cups, followed by the Wheaton Municipal Band at 8 p.m.
