Wheaton Municipal Band to perform music from the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic on June 20

The Wheaton Municipal Band recreates some of its standing ovation performance from the 2012 Midwest Band Clinic on Thursday, June 20 at 8:00 p.m. in Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave., Wheaton, IL. Normally a summer-only performance group, the band came together last December for the 66th Annual Midwest Clinic at McCormick Place in Chicago.  “Playing at the Midwest Clinic is a huge honor,” says maestro Dr. Bruce Moss.  “We were one of only two summer bands to have been invited.”  While many hard-core Wheaton Municipal Band fans, including Mayor Michael Gresk, attended the winter performance, this week the band brings the music home to Memorial Park for the hometown crowd.

One outstanding work on the program is “The Maker’s Mark” by Ryan Nowlin, a former graduate student of Bruce Moss. Now composer/arranger for the “President’s Own” United States Marine Corps Marine Band, Nowlin wrote the piece to honor Dr. Bruce Moss in his 30th anniversary with the Wheaton Municipal Band. Also on the program are Carnival from La Fiesta Mexicana by H.O. Reed, Zenyatta Gallop, a newer work by Speck and Music from West Side Story by Bernstein. Marches on the program include Revelation March by Bourgeois, and The Purple Pageant March by King/Paynter.
